The Group History

MILESTONES OF THE LOACKER GROUP

Do you think recycling is a fairly young industry? Not exactly. Scrap metal was melted down and recycled as early as the Bronze Age. The history of Loacker Recycling dates back to 1876.

Our founder, Katharina Loacker, was collecting scrap metal in the Rhine Valley in Vorarlberg at the time. A goat pulled the cart that soon gave the family the village name “Isabocks”. The company grew over the decades. The first investments were made in Germany in 1999 and in Switzerland in 2007.

Loacker Recycling is now an internationally active company in eight countries. And we still have lots of plans.

1876

Katharina Loacker registers a peddling company in Vorarlberg, Austria.

1900

Trading in scrap metal was one of Katharina Loacker's many professions. She also traded in scrap fabric.

1915

As with a typical family business, the Loacker family lived where they worked - on Brunnengasse in Götzis, Austria.

1920

After the death of his mother, Johann Michael Loacker takes over the scrap metal trade.

1938

After the death of Johann Michael, Johanna, Michael's widow, takes over the business and runs it during the difficult period of the Second World War.

1960

Reinold Loacker invests in a modern fleet of vehicles and equipment.

1962

The family business continues: after the death of the mother Johanna, Reinold's son takes over the company.

1974

Due to lack of space, the family decides to move to the suburb of Götzis in Vorarlberg.

1979

Reinold Loacker hands over the company to his two sons, Karl (left) and Michael (right).
Foundation of a limited company, Michael Loacker takes over for 33 years.

1987

An important driver of growth: the purchase of a 1250 HP shredder.

1992

The company name changes from "Reinold Loacker" to "Loacker Recycling" to reflect its international orientation.

1993

The establishment of the first branch in Csepel/Hungary and the takeover of the former competitor Feldkirch - the direction of rapid growth.

2000

Reconstruction of a company site in Götzis, Vorarlberg: construction of a noise barrier wall, material boxes and a new paper and non-ferrous metal hall.

2012

On Michael Loacker's 60th birthday, he hands over full management to his brother Karl Loacker, who appoints five more board members.

2015

Commitment to the Götz site: construction of a new office building, workshop and reception area.

2019

Karl Loacker hands over the management of the business to his son Christian in October.

2020

In the spring, the newly formed management team will take over the running of the company.

The Loacker Group is passionate about collecting, sorting and processing recyclable materials. From our headquarters in Vorarlberg, Austria, our company has grown steadily since the 1990s to become a leading player in the European recycling industry.

We work closely together across our network of sites to leverage synergies and prepare for the future challenges of recycling. We continue to look to the future as sustainability, digitalization and innovation are key issues for the Loacker Group.
