Scrap Metal
Iron and steel scrap is mainly generated in the metalworking industry, during production operations. In addition, a larger proportion of the material is generated in the form of discarded items from industry, commerce and households.
What we take:
- waste from manufacturing
- post-consumer products and material
- waste from construction and demolition (including materials from households), such as pipes, fittings, profiles, radiators, taps, tubs, wires, grids (e.g. fences), guttering
- waste from garden construction and repair work
What we do not take:
- ferrous household waste which was previously given to communal collection service providers

STEEL SCRAP AS SECONDARY RAW MATERIAL
After professional recycling, scrap metal is used as raw material in steelworks and foundries. In this way we give the material a second life and close the material loop. Steel production from primary raw materials requires several times more energy and produces significantly higher CO2 emissions. Using one tonne of recycled scrap metal significantly reduces energy consumption and saves around 1.7 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Recycling scrap metal therefore plays an important role in the sustainable management of natural resources.
Scrap metal is divided into two categories, light and heavy scrap, which differ mainly in the way they are processed.
LIGHT STEEL SCRAP
Light steel scrap is defined as steel scrap with a wall thickness of less than six millimetres. This type of waste is mainly generated in households and in manufacturing processes. Once processed, they are suitable for direct processing in steelworks.
FIELD PROCESSING
Steel shears: steel scrap free of foreign matter is cut to chargeable size with the steel shears, which are then suitable for remelting directly in the blast furnace.
Examples
Domestic steel scrap (drying rack, bicycle, washing machine, large electrical household appliances, etc.), production scrap from metal processing plants, scrap cars
HEAVY STEEL SCRAP
Heavy steel scrap is defined as ferrous scrap with a wall thickness of more than six millimetres. This waste is usually generated during building demolition.
FIELD PROCESSING
The larger pieces are cut to size with steel shears or cut by hand with a flame cutter.
Examples
Steel beams and rails, coarse slabs, production equipment, emptied tanks, ships, castings, etc.
